A Short History of
Bowls Safety Bay Incorporated
- The Club was formed in 1951 with
no money, the lease of an area of sand hills, less than 30
members but a ton of enthusiasm from hard working volunteers.
Today we have four synthetic greens.
We still boast a dedicated band of loyal, hard working
volunteers, a well equipped clubhouse and a membership in excess
of 550.
- November 1953 the first green was
laid.
- February 1956 the Inaugural
Opening of the Club.
- April 1961 the Official Opening of
the new Club House.
- July 1972 the name changed to
Safety Bay Bowling and Recreation Club.
- May 2000 the first lady was
elected on to the Club Committee as Vice President.
- August 2000 the first game was
played on the new synthetic green.
- Metropolitan Club
Of The Year 2000/2001 and again in 2002/2003.
- In May 2008 the
Women and Men Members formed a united Club and changed its name
to Bowls Safety Bay Incorporated
- Throughout its history volunteers
and Committee members with good management skills, foresight and
financial expertise have served the Club.
Mention must be made of the contribution made by the Rockingham
Road Board, (later to become the Rockingham Shire Council then
the City of Rockingham Council) to the evolution of the Club.
Our many sponsors have also played a part.
